By retaining nearly 80% of the existing 1960’s facilities, the project has achieved a remarkable transformation using a new build courtyard infill to link together an eclectic set of adjacent buildings and undertaking a dramatic reorganisation with a less is more approach to the refurbishment, concentrating on acoustics, daylight and orientation, with clear layers to public and private space. It has opened the University up to the city, providing a new civic space for the city and enabled the establishment to offer more for its students.
